One Golfer’s Opinion: Striker Golf GPS – Not just another golf app for your phone!
Striker Golf GPS is one of the newest golf GPS applications available on the market. The full version of the software was released to the public in January 2014 and is designed for use on modern Android and smartphones. I first learned of Striker Golf GPS when looking for a new GPS option for my golf game. My current GPS is more than a few years old and was beginning to have problems. I had tried other smartphone GPS alternatives in the past, but wasn’t satisfied with the software or the results.
Sadly I haven’t found a lot of golf products to write about because most of products I’ve received have not pass muster or had nothing special about them worth recommending. Here’s one of the exceptions…Striker Golf GPS.
When I took a look at what they had built and where they are taking the app in the tournament market, I came to the conclusion that Striker Golf GPS has some pretty interesting differentiators. I’ve only tried it with one round, but already there is a lot I like about this new app and plan on using it a lot in 2014. So if you are looking for something to help you with course management, club selection and feedback on where you should be spending more time practicing, give Striker Golf GPS a try.
I have been reviewing golf apps for a while now looking for a good combination of price and value. Out of the GPS apps out there, Striker Golf GPS was by far the best in function and in value. Not only was the GPS function fast and accurate, but the touch-arrows that give you the distance to hazards and the hole makes it easy to picture lay-up distances as well as the distance to the hole from that point.
Then, the statistics buttons are all on the same page surrounding the GPS screen so that Stats can be entered without even leaving the screen unike all the other apps out there.
Finally, and I liked this the best, was the scorecard, which can score you as an individual, or as a group or team. It can create Ryder Cup games like best ball, scrambles, and alternate shots. We used it on our Buddy Trip in Scottsdale and loved it. It even kept our handicap holes.
I had heard about Striker and discovered that it not only provided all that Sky Caddie does, it allowed me to choose a spot where I wanted to lay up, give me the exact yardage to that point and then the yardage from that point to the pin. Finally I can plan my shots on the course the way the pros do.
I really liked being able to enter my score without leaving the GPS screen. It automatically updates my handicap and keeps track of all my stats like GIR, # of putts, fairways hit, etc.
Striker has made golf more fun for me. I highly recommend it.
Striker golf has designed a unique Live Scorecard and Leaderboard with the ability to create most of the golf games with handicaps that you or your friends might want to play; whether it is an individual or team game or a Ryder Cup game ( best ball, alternate shot, better ball, match play ). All of these features are set up and scored on a unique Live Scorecard which will manage all of your calculations. In addition, they have incorporated social media into the app. You can send broadcast messages to your buddies, view everyone’s scorecard live, and trash talk.
And don’t let me forget to mention that I believe that the actual GPS to be better than the established leaders. Striker may have the only GPS app that keeps both the scoring and statistics buttons on the same screen as the GPS map. This design in the user interface allows users to keep score and statistics without changing the screen. I believe the benefits of this interface increases the ease of use, the speed, and the battery life compared to other GPS apps available.
