PHILADELPHIA -- Characterizing Day 2 of the NHL draft as "a good day," Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving pronounced himself "happy and excited" about the weekends transactions. Among the teams moves was trading one of the teams two third round picks, no. 83 overall, to the Chicago Blackhawks for Brandon Bollig, a six-foot-two, 223-pound left-winger who had seven goals, seven assists, and 92 penalty minutes in 82 games last season. "Weve talked a little bit about adding some size to our lineup," said Treliving, "I think Brandons a guy that in a situation where hes maybe given a little bit more responsibility, a little bit more opportunity, I think theres still more growth to his game. "Weve got some young people coming and we want to make sure theyre surrounded by the right people. Hes won a Stanley Cup." Chicago GM Stan Bowman said the Blackhawks would miss Bolligs presence, but that they had to look to the future. "Its always tough when you trade a player whos been part of your group, a regular player for you," said Bowman. "But weve got to look at doing some things like that to prepare for next year." Chicago needed to make some moves to get under the salary cap, which is $69 million for the 2014-2015 season. The Flames took six-foot-six right-winger Hunter Smith from the OHLs Oshawa Generals with the 54th overall pick and six-foot-one defenceman Brandon Hickey from the AJHL in round three. The teams late-round picks were Swedens Adam Ollas Mattsson, a six-foot-four 209-pound blue-liner and six-foot-three, 216-pound Austin Carroll of the WHLs Victoria Royals. "Its not about just getting big," said Treliving. "All these guys bring a little something to the table. Hunter Smith is a guy that took a huge step this year, but hes still a young guy thats going to fill out." Smith was excited to play for a Flames franchise thats putting an emphasis on physical play. "I think Calgary is a great fit for me," said Smith. "Im a big, strong power winger; Im going to get in the corners and Im going to mess it up down there." In something of a mild surprise, the Flames took the no. 2-ranked goalie, Mason McDonald of the QMJHLs Charlottetown Islanders, with the 34th overall pick, passing up no. 1-ranked Thatcher Demko. "Lot of debate on it with the guys for the last few weeks," said Treliving. "Ultimately our goalie list had Mason at the top. Our guys liked this guy, he was there, we made the pick." The six-foot-two, 170-pound Halifax native began the 2013-2014 season with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. A midseason trade moved him to Charlottetown where he finished the season with a combined eight wins, posting a 3.44 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. "We knew if we didnt take him there that we didnt have a chance to get him," said Treliving. Amateur scout Tom Webster, whos retiring after this draft, got a standing ovation before announcing the Flames final pick at no. 184. "He was emotional," said Treliving. "Thats the first time Ive seen a standing ovation on the floor for somebody. It shows the impact hes had to a lot of people out there." Air Max Plus Uk Online . The Spanish champions decision not to sign a defender during the January transfer window may have backfired after Valencia took advantage of a lethargic, uninspired effort by its hosts at the Camp Nou, where former Spain coach Luis Aragones -- who previously coached the Catalan side -- was honoured after his death on Saturday.RENTON, Wash. - The interceptions are down for Earl Thomas. Same for the number of passes Thomas broke up this season and the free safetys total tackles. What remains the same is a presence that makes it difficult to challenge the Seahawks deep down the middle of the field. He has been more consistent than he has ever been. Hes been at his best, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. As it happens you know, when you gain the notoriety and the respect is demonstrated by the fact the ball doesnt go your way, he doesnt see much but thats a big, big plus for us. That means that post routes and seam routes dont happen again. Thats huge because thats how people score the most in the league with the throwing game. So hes been a huge factor. As a whole, Seattles secondary has lacked some of the flash that made it stand out during last seasons title run. There has been less opportunity for Thomas, Richard Sherman and the rest of Seattles defensive backs to be in the spotlight because teams were less willing to take chances throwing against them. The Seahawks led the NFL with 28 interceptions last season. This season, that number plummeted to just 13.But a core element of Seattles defence is not giving up big plays and much of that can be attributed to Thomas. The Seahawks gave up just 32 completions of 20 or more yards this season, the fewest in the NFL. They also led the league in fewest runs of 10 or more yards allowed. While fellow safety Kam Chancellor gets attention for his run support, Thomas is often the one cleaning up any ball carriers that slip through.Thomas season could be encapsulated by one play in the season finale against St. Louis. With the Seahhawks holding a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, Rams quarterback Shaun Hill threw in the flat to running back Benny Cunningham at the 6-yard line.dddddddddddd. Cunningham was briefly slowed by Byron Maxwell at the 2, allowing time for Thomas to come from 10 yards away and get in on the tackle. But instead of just trying to stop the runner short of the goal line, Thomas chopped at Cunninghams arm. The move knocked the ball free from Cunningham and out of the end zone for a touchback. The forced fumble kept Seattles streak intact of not giving up any fourth-quarter points in the final six games. And it drew raves from his teammates.I thought it was the biggest play of the game, defensive end Michael Bennett said. That was one of those plays, most people would just let a guy run into the end zone and just say, Were already in the playoffs, we dont need to do that. This play doesnt even matter. But the mindset Earl has every weekend is intensity and his approach to the game is second to none. For him to make that strip was just amazing. But when asked to describe that play on Thursday, Thomas gave a collective shrug. He didnt see anything special about his third forced fumble of the season.I think that play just represents all the tackles that I make. They kind of look like that but people dont see it. But I guess that was something that everyone had to pay attention to, Thomas said. I knew what was coming. I had a good feel, I was in a rhythm and I was just mirroring the QB. Once I get in a mirror like that Im in sync and its hard to stop what Im trying to do.___Online:AP NFL website: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP_NFL China NFL Jerseys Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap Basketball Jerseys Online Stitched Hockey Jerseys Wholesale Baseball Jerseys Football Jerseys Outlet College Jerseys For Sale Cheap MLB Jerseys Wholesale Soccer Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys For Sale Wholesale NFL Jerseys ' ' '
