Keeping Score with Striker Golf GPS – 2 Great Ways to Do It

One of the most common questions we are asked is “What is the preferred way to keep score using the Striker Golf GPS mobile app?”

Well, the answer is – It depends!

There are two ways to score within Striker, and you can switch from one to the other simply by changing your phone position.

Striker Golf GPS Scoring Options

GPS Screen Scoring – One great advantage of Striker over other golf apps is that we allow you to enter your score and all of your stats without ever having to change screens.  When the phone is in the vertical position on the GPS screen, you can press the Strokes button and a number pad will appear from which you can enter your stroke count for the current hole.  Once entered, it will automatically display the entry pad for your number of putts, and then continue on through the other stats.  With this one-screen method, a player can enter their score and all of their stats in LESS THAN FIVE SECONDS!!!  No more excuses for not keeping your stats.  They will help you improve.

Scorecard Scoring Method – If you prefer to enter your score via the traditional scorecard, or you are scoring for more than just yourself, simply hold the phone in landscape position and the display will automatically change to show the scorecard.  Just tap the cell for the hole and player you want to score and a scoring banner will appear at the bottom of the screen.

It’s that simple.  As always, please contact support if you have any additional questions.

I can’t find my course in the system!

Striker Golf GPS covers well over 18,000 golf courses in the U.S.  It is very likely that your course is in the system, but your search isn’t finding it.

First, make sure that you are searching All Courses by selecting the All Courses button as shown below.  If Favorites is selected instead, you are only searching your favorites.  If, after selecting All Courses, you still cannot find your course, please send the course name and location to us and we will take a look for you.  If, for some reason, the course is not in the database, we will add it as soon as possible.

How is Golf Handicap calculated?

In the early part of the twentieth century, the United States Golf Association (USGA) made a decision to even the playing field among amateur golfers in an attempt to make golf more fun and equitable. The premise was that golf would be much more fun if you could “handicap” a better player when they are playing others of lesser skill levels; the match would be more even and competitive.

How is handicap information shown on my scorecard?

Striker Golf GPS shows handicap information on your scorecard in a number of ways.

  1. Your Course Handicap is calculated automatically by the app and displayed under your name entry on the scorecard.  Your Course Handicap is the handicap you declared adjusted for the difficulty of the course according to USGA regulations.  No more breaking out a calculator for an accurate Net Score.
  2. The Hole Handicap is shown next to the par number on each hole.  The Hole Handicap is the ranking of the holes on the course by hardest to easiest, according to strict USGA guidelines and this ranking is used to determine on which holes a golfer is granted extra strokes.  For example,  if you have a handicap of 5, your are afforded an extra stroke on each of the 5 most difficult holes on the course.
  3. An asterisk is used as a Handicap Indicator to show the holes on which each golfer is granted an extra stroke.  If the golfer is granted more than one stroke (handicap greater than 18), two asterisks will be displayed

Why is the handicap on my score card different from the handicap I entered?

You may notice that the handicap on your score card does not always equal your stated handicap.  Additionally, you handicap may change depending upon the course you are playing.

The picture above shows where the course handicap is displayed on your scorecard.  Course handicap are the correct way to score your golf round because your handicap is adjusted according to the difficulty of the course.  Making this calculation is normally a headache so they are not used by many golfers.

Striker takes the pain out of using course handicaps by computing them for you automatically, making Striker Golf GPS one of the best tools for your golf game.

Please contact us if you have further questions on course handicaps or any other aspect of your golf app.
